Commissioner Proctor?

I had coffee with Mayor Bogaard this morning.  It went really well - and honestly - he’s really, really a nice guy.  We talked about all kinds of things - including the absolute likelihood that he’ll nominate me for a post on the Human Relations Commission.  I won’t hear back from him for a few weeks but I’m really, really excited!  This is going to be great!

Thank you all for your continued support.

More later.

Jim Lomako rules.

Seriously.

I’m voting for him AGAIN on April 17th.

Here’s how he saved a street in Pasadena:

Rock on, Foothill Cities, Rock on.

From the Circle K in San Dimas to the abandoned Thrift Store on Lincoln Avenue in Altadena, the Foothill Cities blog provides a unique outlook on all of the goings on in this great area. Well-written and well-poised, it’s a treat to read this blog daily.

Oh and yeah, I made their “Comment Of The Week” this week:

Salzer vs. Robinson: The Battle For District 1 (and why Robin Salzer is a dick)

http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_5553807

I’ll let you decide who is best for the job, but here’s my take.

Jacque Robinson is a very real, very honest young person trying to stand up for the real issues that affect the Northwest, where most of District 1 is located.  Jacque is a stellar human being who doesn’t bark out political “double talk” and always has examples of how she’s going to follow through on her plans for District 1.

Robin Salzer is a businessman, owner of Robin’s, a restaurant on the east side of town.  He once called me “articulate”..but not the nice way someone normally would - he used the word “articulate” as a veiled insult like most racist people do when they talk about a minority candidate who can speak well. (Like the white Republicans who call Barack “articulate”).  I tried to speak with Mr. Salzer after a forum and he just walked away and completely ignored me.  What a DICK.

He says he can sit down in a room and get along with anybody and I just don’t think that’s true.  He also claims that running a restaurant would be exactly the same as running District 1.  Dude needs to pay attention to “his” alleged community a little bit more.  District 1 contains the most ignored part of the city - it’s not some ribs dripped in BBQ sauce and honey mustard.

UPDATE:  Andre Coleman informed me the Pasadena Weekly (and the Pasadena Journal) came out with this story a full 24 hours before.  Here’s the link:

What if I ran against this guy in 2011? I’m doomed!

No joke.  If Bogaard doesn’t run, I won’t be surprised if I have to face the ladies man himself..Steve “Man Meat” Haderlein:

Coffee talk with Mayor Bogaard

“I’m all verklempt”

So, I’m having coffee with Mayor Bogaard on Saturday morning.  I’ve never had coffee with the Mayor of a City before, much less ever had coffee with someone who, over 3 weeks ago, was an opponent of mine in the election.

It should be interesting to say the least.  I hear the rumors from reporters and other City politicos that he might make me an offer to sit on one of the Commissions here in Pasadena, others say he may want to discuss my political future in a vague manner, and still others say it’s usually tradition the winner takes the loser of an election out for lunch or coffee or whatever.

I’m excited to sit down with the Mayor and tell him face-to-face what I think Pasadena should focus on and what I think I’d be good at helping out with.  Affordable housing is definitely still a concern of mine, the concerns of young people (read: anyone 35 or younger in this city is considered “young people”), the shotty and out-of-order public transportation system in this city, and helping build bridges between the cultures that make up Pasadena are all on that list, too.

I know I’ve joked around and I know you all have your opinions - but Mayor Bogaard is a kind gentleman and a very affable person and he does, at this moment, take me seriously as a human being and as a person who can go far in Pasadena politics. I’m crossing my fingers that he knows what issues I strongly support and oppose and I’m hoping there’s a place for me on, say, the Human Relations Commission or the Public Transportation Commission..or..something!

So, we’ll see how it goes Saturday morning and I’ll definitely let you all know what the outcome is.

Otherwise, it’s just pretty cool to have coffee with the Mayor of one of the most famous cities in the United States.

Stand & Deliver.

As I were in 2000

This picture was taken in the Spring of 2000.  I was 18 going on 19. I found it amusing and since I don’t have anything political to talk about today - why not post it?

More talk on affordable housing

Regarding the continuing affordable housing debate in Pasadena, and as a former Pasadena mayoral candidate, I feel I should chime in with my two cents.

Affordable housing is necessary in Pasadena and the downtown housing cap sounds like a perfect idea. Of course, it’s obvious the Republican Steve Haderlein opposes this and then, Green Phil Koebel is for this.

I sincerely applaud Mayor Bill Bogaard, however, for his comments that the City Council should most definitely not be afraid to push more development into areas of the city that desperately need it, such as east of Old Town and downtown.

I have a suggestion, though. Let’s see some more talk about those in-lieu developer fees, though. And by “talk,” I mean abolishing those fees completely.
