Top Ten Rejected Pasadena Follies Scripts

If you didn’t hear, the 481st annual Pasadena Follies are approaching. Check out last year’s photo gallery. Yes, that’s Mayor Bogaard as a cowboy.
This year’s theme is “Pasablanca”, an obvious parody of the film “Casablanca.”

There will be some interesting people participating in this years’ Follies. ;-)

My contact at City Hall, Joey Numbers, gave me a list of possible scripts City Spokeschick Ann Erdman was going over but axed in favor of “Pasablanca”. These were also to be spoofs of films, TV shows, and other forms of media:

Much Ado About Haderlein

Steve spreads his genes of gorgeousness to build a Sexy Master Race, a 69th Reich if you will.

Stevie, Stevie

Pudding & Pie

Kissed The Girls

And Made Me Cry

Sexy Steve’s in the news today.

First, from Pasadena Now:

The Fair Political Practices Commission has closed its file involving a complaint alleging Pasadena City Councilmember Steve Haderlein violated provisions of the California Political Reform Act prohibiting sending mass mailings at public expense.

“After review of the complaint, we note that you have re-paid the city for the cost of the mailing,” the Commission said in a letter dated Aug. 22, “and consequently we have decided to close this matter without commencing further investigation.”

The letter states it has enclosed the applicable code section and regulation “to help you avoid potentially serious problems in the future.”

Haderlein told Pasadena Now yesterday the whole thing was “much ado about nothing.”

But he still faces potential criminal charges by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office if it finds there were willful violations of the code. A spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office told Pasadena Now they have received the complaint and have opened an inquiry.

I had the chance to speak with someone at the District Attorney’s office, as well. They said Steve is far too gorgeous to waste their time with. “If [Paris] Hilton or [Lindsay] Lohan had half of the good looks as Mr. Haderlein, we’d sentence ourselves to 45 days in jail.”

Haderlein then flexed his brain muscles over on PasadenaPundit.com:

You raise many issues but allow me to respond to one aspect (see “Nursery Relocation a Win/Win Deal?,” PasadenaNow., Aug. 29).

Fritz (Puelicher) is wrong when he says there is a “storage for ice rink” deal out there. The rink is a stand alone project not requiring assistance from Edison or RHC. The rink is funded by the City, is being built on City land (including the parking) and is accessed via Foothill Boulevard through the PCC driveway.

The “ice rink for storage” conspriacy theory has its genesis in the campaign run by my opponent in the 2007 election. He tried to concoct a backroom deal connecting me with Edison / RHC. First it was Vina Vieja Park (”Steve’s park”). But that lie lost its usefulness for a political campaign when people figured out that the bulk of the park is on City land
and my opponent figured out that people like the park. It then morphed from a “park for storage” deal into a “rink for storage” deal.

We’re going ahead with the rink without Edison. That has always been the plan.”
Added clarification from Councilman Haderlein

“Conspiracy” sounds a bit strong (and a bit paranoid on my part!). “Rumors and untruths perpetuated by political opponents” is perhaps more accurate. But yes, getting information accurate out is good.
Steve Haderlein

I have recently sent Steve an “Aaron Proctor & The 11% Experience” button. I wonder if he’s received it yet.

Luscious Steve has more over on his blog.

Even More Sid Tyler Facts

The oh-so-popular Sid Tyler facts have returned today!

Some more legends of everyone’s favorite District 7 bad-ass:

Sid Tyler (very right) can make plants grow with his mind.

  • Who let the dogs out? Sid Tyler let the dogs out.
  • Godzilla is a Japanese rendition of when Sid Tyler visited Tokyo.
  • Sid Tyler once rode a bull. Nine months later, it had a calf.
  • Only Sid Tyler can prevent forest fires.
  • If at first you don’t succeed, you’re not Sid Tyler.

BONUS FACT:  When Sid makes a fist, the Pasadena newspapers call it “another incident of gang violence”.- AP

Motive

The motive in the slaying of Ebony Huel seems to have been revealed.

From the PSN:

PASADENA - New information emerged Thursday that could explain why police believe a 19-year-old man opened fire at a Pasadena nightclub last month, killing a 16-year-old girl.

Deputy District Attorney Michelle Humphrey of the Hardcore Gangs Investigative Unit said suspect Johnl Dvon Reynolds, identified in court records as a reputed gang member, had gone to the club the night of Aug. 17 looking for a man who provided evidence against Reynolds in an earlier case.

Around 11 p.m. Reynolds fired one shot from a handgun, intending to hit Sean Michael Quintero, 20, of Pasadena, according to law enforcement officials.

Instead, the bullet struck Ebony Huel of Pasadena, who was standing outside the club, police said. Huel died the next day at a hospital.

It’s no surprise because there has been speculation (well, pretty much hardcore facts) for weeks that Ebony was not the intended target.

Hopefully this kid who was the target sees how close he was to having his life ended and turns his life around.

Probably won’t happen..but it’s just a thought.

Being in a gang is stupid, that’s agreed all around.  Nobody deserves to die because of it, though.

Another strange fact in this article - violent crime fell in Pasadena 24 percent?  Those are from FBI Crime Statistics in 2006.

I call shenanigans.

There Was A TV Show…

I appeared on “NewsRap” with “Mr. Thursday Morning” Andre Coleman once again last night.

It was really fun and I’m glad Andre and I had lots of time to discuss a wide array of subjects. From the closing of the Underground to “What’s a blog?” to local bloggers in Pasadena and everything else along the way (I even mentioned Maserati Madison). Plus, I got to introduce Andre like he was WWE superstar Mr. Kennedy.
It was also nice to turn the tables and actually ask Andre some questions - just about reporting in general and the difference between a real reporter (Andre) and a fake journalist (me).

I’ll try to return to the show in a few weeks. Andre’s great to work with. You should check out his show every Thursday, though, on Pasadena 56.

P.S. I’m happy to know I’ll now be sometimes contributing over at the Foothill Cities Blog.

Misuse Of Funds

PUSD Board Member, friend o’ the blog, & “Tia Dalma/Calypso” in Pirates of The Caribbean, Renatta Cooper, is on the case!

Just when I’d mentioned I don’t cover PUSD enough, check out this article at Pasadena Now.

“Misuse of funds” is a nice, political way of saying “bogarting cash for the school district to pay for your Ford Escort (or your escort service).”

I can’t wait to find out who this employee or these employees are. Someone just booked an extended stay at the Stupidland Inn & Suites.

Farewell To The Underground

PSN and Pasadena Weekly both have their own scoops.

Wait? Red tape making a process slow in the City of Pasadena?  No way! Somebody not returning phone calls to Andre Coleman?! OH NOES!
Next thing, you’re going to tell me we have the Rose Parade here every year.

Regardless of this, I still think this tragedy wouldn’t have been averted.  Somebody still would have been “caught in the crossfire” before too long.

That’s the real sad reality.

I’ve Got A Message For You That You’d Better Believe

Don’t mess with a journalistic man.

“Mr. Thursday Morning” Andre Coleman (whose show I’m going to appear on later tonight) has a really good column in this week’s P-Dub:

Maybe along with packing the council chambers, residents should have been asking questions about the Underground, what they could be doing to help teachers and students and stopping the flow of drugs into the Northwest and other parts of Pasadena.

We could be the biggest agents of change in our communities if we just start sending our children the right messages. Tell your child: No one is going to hire you if you don’t pull your pants up and learn to speak well; paying your bills is more important than buying spinning rims; hanging out in front of the liquor store all day drinking 40s isn’t cute; and not all of your problems are the white man’s fault.

Andre’s right. I mean, I do blame others in City government for ignoring the Northwest because a major crime has yet to happen to a rich white person.

But it is time to stop the finger pointing. City Council is only responsible for so much negligence. Where does government’s apathy end and yours begin?

How bout dem apples?

P.S. Me, standing outside of a liquor store, drinking a 40, would be pretty cute.

Bob, Slayer of Bib

I saw Bob Harrison this morning walking up Lake Ave while I was walking down Lake Ave.

We didn’t speak (except for him saying “Hi” and me shouting my typical “Oh shit! It’s (insert famous political figure in Pasadena’s name here)” because he was crossing at a traffic light the same time I was.

Bob Harrison defeated popular PUSD member, motorcycle enthusiast, and friend o’ the blog, Bill Bibbiani, in this past April’s run-off election.

I don’t cover PUSD as much as I’d like because I don’t have children. I am a fan, though, of the erstwhile Bibbiani and current PUSD member, Renatta Cooper.

Bob also owns the Green Street Restaurant.

Therefore, he needs to name something after me.
